Structural studies of DNA repair required for human immune diversity using cryoEM

About me

I completed my MChem degree at the University of York, undertaking my final year research project in the York Structural Biology Laboratory under Prof. Gideon Davies. During my degree my interests moved more towards biochemistry and structural biology and I wanted to move more in this direction for my PhD.

My research

The aim of my project is to understand the end joining step of V(D)J recombination, which introduces antibody diversity in vertebrates. I will be using cryoEM to study the RAG recombinase in complex with the reconstituted nucleosome to see how conformational changes in the post-reaction complex enable recruitment of non-homologous end joining proteins.
